Books Currently Trending on "BookTok"
Recently, as I have been scrolling through TikTok, I have found myself making it to the so -called “BookTok”. This is the side of the app that focuses on everything book related. From science fiction and romance to fantasy and young adult, there are book recommendations for anyone and everyone. Although, while I have been scrolling, I have come across several books that seem to be becoming quite big. Below I have listed some of these trending reads:
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
The Cruel Prince is a young adult novel and the first installment in the Folk of the Air series. It follows a mortal girl by the name of Jude Duarte, living in the faerie world of Elfhame. While there, Jude must learn how to adapt to life alongside powerful creatures that are not very fond of humans. She is also faced with feelings for a certain faerie prince by the name of Cardan Greenbriar. If you end up loving this book, good news. There are four others that follow.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Set during the Greek Heroic Age, The Song of Achilles is an adaptation of Homer’s Iliad. The book follows Patroclus’ relationship with the legendary Achilles from their first encounter to their exploits during the Trojan War. If you are a big fan of fiction, this is the perfect book for you. It is also the perfect book for those of you that love a good romance and a bit of Greek Mythology.
Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
This next book falls under LGBTQ fiction, and it is quite a fun book to read. Inspired by the 2016 Presidential Election and the high-profile lifestyle of the British royals, Red, White, and Royal Blue centers around the first son of the United States, Alex Claremont-Diaz, and his relationship with the British prince, Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor. This sounds like quite the read.
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover
I have seen It Ends with Us all over the place lately. This romance centers on a young woman named Lily Bloom and her doomed relationship with a man named Ryle Kincaid. It tells of her past history in an abusive household and the escape of an abusive relationship. The question: how do they connect? This novel is the perfect combination of realistic romance with all-too-real personalities.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
This next book is the first installment of the fantasy novels by Sarah J. Maas. A Court of Thorns and Roses follows the journey of Feyre Archeron as she is forcibly brought to the faerie lands of Prythian after murdering one of their kind. This first installment is perfect for those of you that enjoy intricate world building and also a little bit of spice. There is a reason this book has been found on “SpicyTok”.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is a historical fantasy novel that has been gaining lots of attention. The story follows a young woman in 18th century France by the name of Addie LaRue. After making a deal with a demonic spirit, Addie gains eternal life but at a cost. Anyone who meets her will instantly forget her existence. This is not like other fantasy books, and it is guaranteed to keep you entertained.
