Jaclyn Hill Launches Haute Tropics Collection, and We're Totally Obsessed

Jaclyn Cosmetics is here to reclaim their crown

Jaclyn Hill is giving new meaning to Hot Girl summer by releasing her latest collection, Haute Tropics, for her self-titled beauty brand, Jaclyn Cosmetics. The shades are sultry, the formulas are creamy, and our wallets are already preparing for an inevitable indulgence. (But honestly, what could be more worth it than illuminating makeup?)

When it comes to releasing cosmetics products, this is not Hill's first go-around. The beauty mogul rapidly rose to popularity through her YouTube channel, where she posts a plethora of cosmetics-related content. Spanning from her first posting debut in 2011 all the way until now, a simple click on her channel icon–which showcases over 5 million subscribers– will immerse you in a world of alluring makeup tutorials, engaging product reviews, and captivating beauty hauls.

Additionally, the influencer has recently branched out into creating exciting lifestyle content, such as food reviews and snack inspo vids– something we can all definitely get behind. Nonetheless, Hill's channel remains a prominent one-stop-shop for all cosmetics and beauty-related needs, which is why she has a history of being a hot pick for brands to team up with.

As one of the first beauty gurus to rise to fame via YouTube, selecting Hill for product collaborations was a no-brainer for many established makeup companies. Besides her bubbly personality and charismatic attitude, she has an eye for creating remarkable cosmetics products. As a former makeup artist who has experience working with an abundance of clients, it is safe to say that Hill knows exactly what beauty lovers crave.

Notably, her expertise hit the high mark back in 2015 with the release of Champagne Pop, a limited-edition Shimmering Skin Perfector that she cultivated in collaboration with Becca Cosmetics. If you were in tune with the beauty community at that time, you'd know the scope of the hype this release ignited. Within the first 20 minutes the product was live on Sephora's website, 25,000 units were sold. Everyone wanted to get their hands on the gleaming and gorgeous gold-toned highlighter that illuminated the high points of the face. To this day, Champagne Pop is still one of the most adored YouTube vlogger and brand collabs.

With the success of her YouTube channel and partnerships, it's no surprise that Hill decided to introduce her own makeup brand. After much speculation for years from the beauty community, Jaclyn Cosmetics was announced in May 2019 with an initial launch collection consisting of 20 different nude lipstick shades. With Hill as the face of the brand, it was poised to be a favored new line– until chaos arose.

Soon after the launch, major controversy and consumer complaints ensued over the lipsticks–including quality control issues and sanitary concerns. After much debacle, customers ended up being refunded and compensated for their lipstick purchases, lab malfunctions were addressed, and hard work and tireless preparation went into making sure the company never went under fire for a similar issue ever again.

Following the backlash over the scandal, Hill took a step back from social media to, assumingly, revamp her brand and reclaim the image she worked so hard to create over the years– a girl who loves makeup and wants to share her passion with the world. And, given the current sell-out rates on their website, the revitalization of the brand was victorious.

Come 2021, the brand is hot on the beauty scene. Earlier this year, the company dropped a Valentine's Day collection plus multiple other products, including bronzer and blush duos, face powders, and highlighters. Though all these releases are enchanting and stunning, there's only one collection on our radar this summer: Haute Tropics.

According to Hill, the assortment reflects a "sexy summer night vibe." The lineup features glossy lip oils, beaming highlights, flattering bronzers, and dewy liquid highlighters. The best part? The shade range doesn't just cater to one skin tone– an issue in the cosmetics industry that is only recently being brought to light and reassessed. (It's about time.)

The highlighters and bronzers come in various tones to provide consumers options depending on their complexion. And if you still can't find one that works for you, don't fret yet. In her YouTube video announcing the summer ensemble, Hill encourages customers to provide the company feedback on their needs as beauty enthusiasts. If you desire a contrasting undertone that isn't currently available or a shade range that isn't being offered, Hill welcomes constructive criticism.
