Is NYX’s Face Glue Worth the Hype?
It has been a few months since the release of NYX’s “Face Glue” Primer and setting spray. Well, the results are in, and the audience ultimately seems to hold mixed opinions about this virally favored product.
For beauty professionals and novices alike, we have all seen the catchy commercials and vibrantly colored ads that continue to promote these supposedly unwavering products, guaranteeing long-lasting and favorable outcomes to those who adore their 24H wear.
I want to bring together my findings of all the reviews that have piled in from buyers and promoters across America since Face Glue’s release, compiling most of them into a brief yet informative piece for those who are still on the fence about spending their hard-earned dollars on another product that promises to do what hundreds of others have already accomplished.
According to several reviews on Influenster – a site that provides products for members to try and give honest reviews, which they share on a variety of consumer platforms– many find Face Glue to be slightly sticky within the first minute of application. However, it does even out into a smooth finish overall. It’s lightweight and does not contain any strong odors. The same praise has been shown for the Face Glue setting spray as well, helping makeup to stay on longer throughout the day while also keeping it fresh and smooth.
“NYX The Face Glue Primer and Setting Spray are a game-changer! The Primer gives a smooth, sticky base that keeps my makeup in place all day, while the setting spray locks everything in without feeling heavy. Both keep my makeup looking fresh and flawless for hours. Definitely a must-try!” – Dinkyp_123236
“This primer truly lives up to its name! It keeps my makeup in place all day, even in hot and humid weather. The texture is lightweight and non-sticky, creating a smooth base for flawless application. My foundation looks more even, and I don’t need to touch up as often. It’s an affordable and effective product I highly recommend!” – lanap5_876450
Despite the praise, there are a handful of complaints that have not gone unnoticed. Those who have sensitive skin have shared their experience with Face Glue, having their face dry up or breaking out despite the brand’s clean ingredients. There are also complaints about the product having made their makeup look cakey and separated, not to mention being far too sticky for their liking, and never settling into a desirable finish.
A select few have also complained that the product smells like glue itself, which is, ironically, quite fitting given the color scheme and namesake of NYX’s new product. Unfortunately, not so fitting for the actual usage.
“I wanted to love this but I’m not impressed! By the end of the day my face is so cakey and separated! My skin has been so broken out since I started using it. I like the packaging and the bright colors/theme are cute. It just doesn’t work for me. It applies thick but spreads in nice and even. I think it was just too much for my pores to handle! No noticeable scent and note that a little product goes a long way!” – Meaghanw9
The setting spray’s biggest detriment seems to be the very nozzle attached to it, having the application going on in heavy, uneven spurts rather than a smooth mist. In a particular review, it is seen that the spray contains “white stuff” at the bottom that oddly looks like glue stuck in the water.
“This setting spray was a little weird to me. It seems to have safe ingredients for the skin so that's a plus, but as you can see in the photo the spray has separated. The white stuff at the bottom is really stuck down there. I shook and shook and shook and still could never completely get it to all mix in. It looks like glue and water. It even smells like glue. But it does work. It's just an odd feeling. It's super sticky. I prefer to use this on my sponge either before or after applying my base or tint rather than after I apply all of my makeup. I use another setting spray for that. It does definitely work though if you can get past the whole glue thing. Knowing that it's skin-safe helps.” - Sarahes11 (Note: this review has been pulled from the NYX website as of publishing this)
In the end, it seems that while NYX’s Face Glue does a pretty good job of keeping your makeup intact, it may not be the best for those who have uneven and/or sensitive skin types. Some of the distributed products may also not be up to the quality as advertised, and for that, I strongly recommend looking over them a few times before purchase.
