How to Manage Chronic Dry Winter Lips: Budget-Friendly Edition

While the weather outside may be frightful, maintaining chap-free lips will be oh-so delightful! That’s right! It’s that time of the year again, folks! Time for all of us to bundle up and keep warm, and let’s not forget to moisturize our most delicate features!

Not everyone has mastered the goal of maintaining moist, smooth lips throughout the year, especially now that the weather has decided to greet us all with unexpected kisses of freezing air. Many of us have found ourselves dealing with this chronic predicament for quite some time. Thankfully, I have some easy and budget-friendly tips that will help you through this troubling time.

The first product I would like to recommend is quite often the most overlooked line of lip care – Vaseline. For over a century, this well-renowned company has been the go-to solution for many of our imperfect blemishes and wrinkles. In this case, however, it seems to be a forgotten solution to our seemingly simple issue of lip dryness. Admittedly, even I have favored viral products over its timeless and perfected formula, mainly due to the push and pull of social media’s influential advice. One of the main benefits of using Vaseline is that it’s made of petroleum jelly, which is a blend of mineral oils and waxes that are quite beneficial for those even with the most sensitive skin. The brand comes with fragrance-free options but also holds a selection of products that contain scents preferable for some of their shoppers. I propose that you try the mini “rosy lip balm” as it will give a slight tint to your lips as a means to make them look fresh and ample despite the cold and its harsh giving. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket, allowing you to bring it about anywhere and to apply at any time. The application is also quite smooth and leaves a bit of shine that underlines its visible barrier of moisture and protection. This can also be a wonderful substitute for cosmetic lovers who wish to achieve a simple and clean look while dealing with the frigid cold.

Another product that can maintain healthy and happy lips is a good lip mask. If you frequent yourselves within the beauty community, you are likely more than familiar with the benefits of lip masks. They are products that have aided our lip-stained lips time and time again, rescuing even the driest of cracks and maintaining their luscious plumpness throughout the day. Outside of cosmetic benefits, however, it is also quite useful for maintaining moisture and sealing out unwanted debris that causes dryness and irritation. Lip masks, while often instructed to be used at night, may also be used as an applicant throughout the day as you would with a regular stick of Chapstick or lip-gloss. There are a variety to choose from within the market, but do not be overwhelmed. Many can be found at your local drugstore at an affordable cost, my personal favorite coming from “elf Skin Cosmetics “(Holy Hydration) and “Bert’s Bee’s” (Overnight lip treatment). Both contain all-natural ingredients and are cruelty-free, giving even the most sensitive lips a chance to hydrate.

Lip gloss is another wonderful solution to protect your lips for the season. Why not look and feel good while keeping your lips hydrated? Lip glosses today are popular now more than ever before, and many are now formulated in ways that protect and prevent dryness. Not all of them have to be thickly coded or sticky. In fact, there are ones made to feel like thinly layered oil. While the main properties of lip gloss are often made to shine and highlight the features of your lips, it can be just as useful as a barrier and hydrator to reduce dead skin peels and painful cracks. My personal favorite comes from the brand “Diamond Gloss” as they have a variety of natural colors that may suit your desire for extra pigmentation, along with a long-lasting coat that will keep your lips feeling luscious and loved. For a less sticky approach, “NYX’s” Butter Gloss is an excellent choice, as it is just as lasting and just as thickly coated with protection.

Lastly, sunscreen has always been a well-known product to help protect our skin from the harshness of the sun’s rays, but did you know that it can also be directly applied to your mouth? More specifically, there are lip balms infused with SPF to keep the dryness and damage away from your lips. Some of the best products that include SPF in their balms are Aquaphor and Carmex. They don’t contain scent and are great to use as underlayers when wearing lipstick or even lip gloss.

Overall, finding a solution to dry lips may not always be easy or fun. After all, the dry lip experience is personal to everyone, and one solution doesn’t fit all. However, I am confident in the fact that you will find these tips to be quite effective in the long run, and those perky smoochers of yours will be thanking you for the extra care!
