10 Up and Coming Actresses to Keep Your Eye On
As a movie and TV fan, I love to see new and upcoming actresses in Hollywood. So, I have compiled a list of actresses that I predict will be leading the pack of the newest generation of performers. Here are 10 actresses that you should keep your eye on in the future:
1. Anya Taylor-Joy
Since The Queen’s Gambit hit Netflix, it seems like Anya Taylor-Joy has been everywhere. From winning a Golden Globe and hosting SNL to being on the cover of Vanity Fair, it seems like the world can’t get enough of her. At just 25, Taylor-Joy has starred in several films and acted alongside some of Hollywood’s most talented stars. She has dazzled as a Jane Austen heroine, battled a man with 23 split personalities, and has displayed her power as a new mutant. In her newest film, Last Night in Soho, Anya plays a dazzling singer in the 1960s that has some secrets that may turn out deadly. This new psychological thriller is set to display more of Taylor-Joy’s talent on the big screen. She is someone that I expect to see a lot of in years to come.
2. Jodie Comer
Playing a Queen of England caught in the middle of two families battling for the throne, Jodie Comer first caught attention in The White Princess. She carried herself with the elegance and grace fitting a queen, while also displaying anxiety and the struggle of protecting her royal children from many threats. Since the limited series ended in 2016, Comer has been working on the Emmy award winning show Killing Eve. Comer, who won an Emmy for this role, plays a Russian assassin that grows attached to an MI-6 agent, played by Sandra Oh. Comer’s talent is clear in her ability to make a psychopathic killer funny, charming, and in a way cute. Always entertaining to watch, Comer will be an actress that will bring some amazing performances in the future.
3. Jessie Mei Li
Having played a sun summoner in Shadow and Bone, Jessie Mei Li knows a thing or two about bringing a fresh new light. She played Grisha heroine, Alina Starkov, with all the strength and power of a major actress. While still a relative newcomer, Mei Li has all the makings of a star. She is set to act alongside several other talented ladies on this list in the new Edgar Wright film Last Night in Soho, and plays a character that is shrouded in mystery. It seems that we are seeing the beginning of a strong career.
4. Hunter Schafer
Making her debut first as a fashion model, Hunter Schafer has received a lot of attention from her role of Jules in the hit show Euphoria. This is Schafer’s first official acting job since breaking into the business. Despite being her first role, Schafer was able to display an emotional range of an actor that has been working for years. It looks as if she is about to make the ascent to a strong career.
5. Margaret Qualley
Margaret Qualley did not just get her looks from her movie star mother, Andie MacDowell. She also received a certain talent on the big screen. Already starring in movies like Death Note and Kirsten Stewart’s Seberg, Qualley knows her way around the camera. Although, it was her role of Pussycat, opposite Brad Pitt, in Once upon a Time in Hollywood that brought Qualley to the public’s attention. With many credits to her name, it seems that Miss Qualley will have a positive future on screen.
6. Maya Hawke
The Daughter of actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, Maya knows some things about making it in Hollywood. While she may have connections, the younger Hawke has had no trouble making a name for herself without her parents' help. From starring as Jo in a BBC production of Little Women to playing one of Manson’s hippies in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Hawke has shown her talent in a range of different characters. Although, the role that she is most known for is her character, Robin, in Stranger Things. Her role as the witty and strong-willed teenager was the perfect addition for the show, and it will be exciting to see what she does in coming seasons.
7. Phoebe Dynevor
Many may know Phoebe Dynevor from her role as Daphne in the hit show Bridgerton, but Miss Dynevor is not new to the screen. From playing a high society girl in Bridgerton to an Irish girlfriend in Younger, Dynevor has been able to display her acting talent. She has since signed to star in a thriller by the name of I Heart Murder. While there is not much out about the film yet, Dynevor will no doubt wow in her performance.
8. Beanie Feldstein
First gaining recognition from her comedic role in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Beanie Feldstein is a natural when it comes to comedy. After all, her brother is Jonah Hill. Like her brother, Feldstein is quite entertaining to watch. Her roles in Lady Bird, alongside Saoirse Ronan, and Booksmart have brought her to our attention. So far, she has already been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress and a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance. No doubt, these are not the last of her nominations.
9. Emma Corrin
Emma Corrin caught everyone’s eye with her performance of Princess Diana in the newest season of The Crown. Corrin was able to capture Diana’s innocence and kind nature perfectly while also mastering her voice and mannerisms. She was able to bring Diana back to life with her performance and capture the awe of viewers everywhere. For her performance, Corrin earned herself nominations for a Golden Globe, SAG, and Critics Choice for Best Actress. In her new upcoming movie, Corrin will star alongside Harry Styles in The Policeman. There is no doubt that Corrin is someone to watch.
10. Thomasin McKenzie
Coming to critical acclaim with the show Leave No Trace, Thomasin McKenzie is set to be in Hollywood’s new generation of actors. She has played a young Jewish girl in Jojo Rabbit and an English princess, alongside Timothee Chalamet, in The King, and there is no slowing down for McKenzie. She is set to star in Tom Cruise’s new movie Top Gun: Maverick, and she will also play aspiring fashion designer Eloise in Last Night in Soho. It seems that McKenzie will be a big star in no time.
