What Everybody’s Wearing the First Week Back at Fashion School

Current trends, styles and fashion hot pieces to look out for this Fall!

One of the major perks to going to the Fashion Institute of Technology is the key intel you collect as to the hottest styles each season. The one block little radius called the FIT campus, is the most updated inside look into the industry's top trends at any given time. It has been almost a year and a half since any students have gathered on the breezeway and shown off their looks. While walking the concrete runway to class, that first week they pulled out all the stops. There were some key styles and pieces trending among many of the students that should be noted and experimented with this fall season!

Boots, Boots, Boots! ~

Undoubtedly there is one item of clothing that is outshining all the rest this fall fashion season. Boots with jeans, boots with skirts, boots with shorts, boots everywhere! They are everywhere you look within the FIT campus this semester. Boots as we know, are nothing new to fashion, but it is all about the way an item is reinvented. These are the slight changes that are made to the piece to give a whole new look to something we may have seen before. It is time to retire the over the knee boots that were infectious a few years back, and trade them out for a pair of calf high, or cowboy style boots. It is also important to look out for anything alligator or animal textured with a slightly pointed toe and small block heel. Little changes like this are what keeps classic pieces in our fashion repertoire, fresh and stylish. Cowboy boots paired with oversized jean shorts, and a large crisp button down is a hot look this year. Anything within the realm of business attire, juxtaposed with a sleek boot and casual elements is the key to the perfect boot look!

Sweater Vests~

When it comes to fashion a rule of thumb is, what's old is always new. Those sweater vests that were everything in the 90’s are back and with full force! All around campus sweater vests were styled giving all the best 90’s vibes, but with an updated 2021 feel. Cream colors layered with denim, or oversized button downs, almost seemed like the uniform on campus. The versatility of these is incredible and the options are endless. Houndstooth as well and fun psychedelic patterns are also ways people are taking the classic sweater vest and making it a great statement piece. Keep an eye out for these because they are seriously hot right now. Maybe see if your mom or family member has one hiding in the back of their closet. You can be sure they styled these long before anyone put one on in 2021. If you’re lucky enough to find one from someone you know, you will also have the ability for extra key style points by saying its vintage!

Casual Workwear~

Another 90’s style back and giving all of the nostalgia feels, is the mix of business and casual. Oversized trousers with sneakers, and a big blazer is a look that is everywhere right now. Not only are they ridiculously fashionable they are so comfortable you’ll hope the trend lasts forever. Whether it’s for work, or school or simply running errands this trend will keep you looking effortlessly stylish and feeling like you rule the sidewalk. The students at FIT played around a lot with intertwining casual elements like sneakers and Dr. Martins with the structured two-piece sets, or simple clean-cut blazers and button downs. This trend has been around for a few seasons now and is not showing any signs of fizzling out anytime soon. It’s not too late to jump on this train and feel the dramatic effects of the power suit.

These are just a few of the pieces and styles taking over 27th and 7th in the little FIT city block. Styles are ever-changing, and fads come and go quicker than we can forecast. There is a good chance that next week on campus, a new trend will surface, and the cycle begins again. What makes fashion so exciting is this way it morphs and adapts to life, and the world around us. If we take what we see, use it ourselves, and find joy and entertainment from it, then we are winning in the big game of dress up we play each morning when we get ready to take on the day.
