Are parachute pants the biggest new trend of summer 2022? Currently, these pants are all over TikTok and Instagram, with a variety of influencers wearing them on a daily basis. As these pants come in a variety of styles and colors, they have quickly become a hot item on every girl's wish list. There is no doubt that the trend originated in New York but has quickly spread. . It is believed that the origins of this trend date back to the 1980s. In the 80's these pants were very popular, but they differed in a slight way from the ones we are seeing in the market today. Now, they mainly come in neutral colors now while 80s parachute pants were bright neon! T is not unusual to see trends recycled from previous decades, such as the return of maxi dresses and flared pants from the 70's or blazers and simple colors from the 90's, or even the return of mid-2000's trends, such as super glittery crop tops and mini skirts. Since the 80’s is not one many regard as a time of admirable fashion, it is very interesting to see that these pants returned from that period. However, parachute pants have returned and they don’t seem to be leaving the fashion sphere anytime soon!

The big pants are often paired with crop tops, maintaining the same look as last summer's boyfriend jeans and tank top trend. Celebrities from Katie Holmes to Selena Gomez have been spotted wearing this new type of pant. In May and June these pants were frequently worn in the white and beige, and in low waisted forms. However, boutiques have begun to sell parachute pants in a variety of colors, like blue, pink, green and gray. There are both couture and low end brands offering this pant. For example, Stella McCartney has parachute pants for around 2,000 dollars, Urban Outfitters is selling them for around 75 dollars, with cheaper brands like H&M selling for as low as 30 dollars.

The reason parachute pants are becoming so popular may be because they are breathable, unlike the similar look of wide leg jeans which are heavy and can be hot on a warm day. The pants can be both dressed up and dressed down, perfect for both day and night looks. By adding sneakers and a t-shirt you are ready for brunch with the girls. Switch your shoes to boots, add a more dressed up shirt, and some nice jewelry and you are ready for a girls night out.

Besides all that greatness, just like most wide legged pants they allow for women to have the snatched waist effect, and the cloth fabric can make you feel like you are wearing sweatpants!

Parachute pants will likely continue to be popular into the fall but have some competition from corduroy which are also coming back into style. Maybe get a white pair for now and a darker pair for later. They look great, feel great, and can be found to fit any budget!
