Eden Rain's “Text Me When You’re Home Safe” Is An Homage To The Sanctity Of Female Friendships
“Text Me When You’re Home Safe” is a newly released single by Eden Rain. Eden mixes her poetic lyrics having to do with coming of age and Gen Z existence with her layered and beautiful instrumentals and voice. The song really is about sisterhood and keeping each other safe and that if you can’t figure out where physically feels like home, sometimes you find people that do. In conversation with Clique, Eden shares “Text Me When You’re Home Safe” is about many things- like growing up, the sanctity of female friendships and figuring out where home is as well of the power of a ‘home safe x’ text from someone you love. She hopes that journeys only gets safer for women in the future.
CLIQUE: How does it feel to have your song “Text Me When You’re Home Safe” out?
EDEN: It feels amazing !!! it’s such a special song to me and feels surreal that I get the opportunity of sharing it and getting to talk about it.
“It’s about many things- like growing up, the sanctity of female friendships and figuring out where home is as well of the power of a ‘home safe x’ text from someone you love. I hope that journeys only gets safer for women in the future.”
CLIQUE: Explain to us the meaning of the song “Text Me When You’re Home Safe”.
EDEN: It’s about many things- like growing up, the sanctity of female friendships and figuring out where home is as well of the power of a ‘home safe x’ text from someone you love. I hope that journeys only gets safer for women in the future.
CLIQUE: What was the process of creating the song like for you?
EDEN: So fun- some songs I have to rejig words in my notes page for a few months until they make sense / feel like they can become a song but TMWYHS was not like that- it just flew out of me really easily. - That’s my favourite way of writing songs and I think it’s a good indicator that the thoughts behind the song are really ready to come out. The original demo had lots of sounds of whiskey bottle clinks and knocks on glass doors that me and my producer Tim recorded on our phones and added in to make the drums extra spicy
CLIQUE: You also have a music video out. Where did the inspiration for the video come from?
EDEN: One of the main inspirations for the music video was the ‘bittersweet symphony’ video. A while back, I remember my manager showing me it and I thought - god that’s such a cool video I’d love to make something like that…. So that’s what we used as inspiration like a year later! Also I’m a heavy Pinterest fan so of course I had to make a mood board ..or two.
CLIQUE: Were you in charge of the music video aesthetic and all of the creative parts?
EDEN: With my music I like to create the artwork and have as much creative involvement as possible. Luckily I work with some amazing people who are very patient and manage to drag my cloudy brain thoughts out and turn it into actual videos. We do lots of recces and tests and make vision boards which really helps. One of my favourite parts of shooting the video was getting to say ‘ that’s a wrap!’ - VERY exciting
CLIQUE: What is your favorite part of writing a song?
EDEN: The cups of tea I drink in the studio… OR
When you’ve been looping the chorus or the verse for a while and finish a part off and then you get to have like the first listen through and fingers crossed sometimes everything comes TOGETHER.
CLIQUE: Who is somebody that you would love to collaborate with in the future?
EDEN: Panicked a bit with this question because I have SO many… I would love to write with Ethan Gruska, think he is a genius and has worked with so many artists I admire.
“Everyday I think more and more about how this job is the best in the world and I’d never ever want to take it for granted.”
CLIQUE: How have you grown as a singer/songwriter through your career?
EDEN: I definitely feel like my confidence in writing has improved. Which I think is really important when it comes to following your gut and going for something a bit quirky or weird.. cause it just might turn out cool. Also trying to perfect my songs more.. I’d rather write 3 wonderful songs than 20 meh ones. Everyday I think more and more about how this job is the best in the world and I’d never ever want to take it for granted.
CLIQUE: Have you learned anything about yourself personally while creating “Text Me When You’re Home Safe”?
EDEN: I need to dress warmer when filming music videos outside in winter . Also how vital collaboration is in creative industries.
CLIQUE: Where do you see your career five years in the future?
EDEN: Making and doing and singing and performing —— everywhere
