Crocs Are Making a Comeback
Most of us hear the word Crocs and picture running around in those rubber shoes as a child, sprinting through sprinklers or slipping them on before running down the block to meet up with neighborhood friends. While we have grown up, Crocs has grown and changed as well. Over the past few years, Crocs underwent a facelift and the brand is now in its comeback era.
One way Crocs has put itself back on the public’s radar is by designing new styles of shoes. We all know and love Crocs’ basic clog, and the brand enhanced the decade-old design by adding a platform to the bottom of the shoe. TikTok exploded with commentary on this new design, getting a conversation started on the brand. The Crocs sandal is another new design that really hit the mark. A great shoe for summer, this design consists of a plastic sandal with holes for Jibbitz.
Crocs is also using fun and out-of-the-box collaborations to rebrand itself. The latest collaboration is the Zappos x Crocs Clueless capsule, which features four new shoe styles and Clueless-themed jibbitz. Other notable collaborations include the Sweethearts x Crocs Collection, Lisa Frank Jibbitz Charms, and of course the collaboration with Justin Bieber (JB x Crocs collaboration). Perhaps the most unique partnership was the Hidden Valley Ranch x Crocs collaboration, which featured American rapper Saweetie as the face of the campaign.
A final reason for Crocs’ comeback is the brand’s increased sustainability efforts. On Crocs’ website you can find a detailed plan of how they will become a Net Zero brand by 2030, along with current sustainability statistics. In 2020, for example, 85% of Crocs were sold without packaging in order to cut down on packaging waste. The brand also introduced a partnership with the online thrift store ThredUP where Crocs’ customers can donate their shoes through ThredUP rather than throwing the old shoes away.
With all these changes we are seeing with Crocs, perhaps it is time to revisit our favorite childhood brand. While you likely no longer run through sprinklers or meet up with your neighbors to ride bikes, Crocs has plenty of shoe designs for almost any occasion.
