The Nourishment of Naps

The Nourishment of Naps

I've often had many caffeinated beverages to avoid taking a nap. I've chosen to be tired, irritable, and unable to focus over simply laying down. Why? It was drilled into my brain that sleeping during the day was an unproductive, bad habit.

I thought that resting would be enough, simply taking a break from what I was doing. I was wrong. Our bodies need to sleep to recover; a nap can be the perfect solution.

According to the CDC  short (15-30 minute) and long (1.5-hour) naps are beneficial for our health.

Healthline  shares many reasons why we should all be taking naps (in moderation) instead of trying to stay awake.

Being tired slows us down. Taking a nap can improve our reaction time and alertness, creating a safer and more productive day.

Naps help improve our focus and lower blood pressure. This creates a better workday or day for ourselves and our families.

Of course, it isn't always possible to lay down and nap. When the opportunity does present itself, try it out. Getting enough sleep is vital for our bodies to function. We are not the same with too much or too little sleep.

Finding a balance that fits into your lifestyle makes all the difference.
