Small Business Spotlight: Macrame by Lyra
Lyra Gonzalez is a 20 year old college sophomore at the University of San Diego. She grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. Lyra has recently started a small woman-owned business titled “Macrame by Lyra”. We interviewed Lyra about her business and her experience building it, inspirations for it, future and much more.
Clique: What motivated you to start “Macrame by Lyra”?
Lyra: I have always been very creative and passionate about making accessories for my home to brighten and liven up the place. I like the aspect of incorporating plants into art so by making macrame which can hold potted plants I am combining life with artwork. I wanted to create pieces that were aesthetically pleasing and creates a peaceful ambiance in ones living area.
Clique: What are some pieces that you have made so far, and which are your favorite?
Lyra: Some pieces I have made so far are different styles of plant hangers, a hanging fruit basket for your produce, such as bananas and apples. I also made a variety of different purses which are different lengths, styles, and colors. My favorite piece so far that I have made is definitely my keychains because they come in many colors, and are practical.
Clique: How do you balance being a college student as well as a small business owner?
Lyra: Macrame to me is relaxing and I consider it my down time. Something I love about this business is that I genuinely love to create my macrame pieces, and it does not drain my energy but refuels me when my mind gets drained of school work so they compliment each other quite well.
Clique: What are your hopes for “Macrame by Lyra” in the future? Where do you see it going?
Lyra: I hope to continue Macrame by Lyra and grow my business, as I love what I am doing and making people happy with my product. I want to grow my business to a broader platform hopefully having more space, materials, and time to continue with Macrame by Lyra.
Clique: Where can someone purchase your pieces from?
Lyra: You can dm me on my instagram @macramebylyra or purchase it off of Etsy at Macrame By Lyra! I have many pieces coming soon and I also make custom pieces as well.
