One of Fashion’s Biggest Nights: The Met Gala

I’m sure we are all excited to see The Met Gala this year after it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic. The Met Gala is an annual event that began in 1948 by founder Eleanor Lambert. Some of the biggest stars invited come together to blow our minds with their unique outfits by some of the most spectacular fashion designers. The Gala fundraises for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. At the event, guests walk the Red Carpet before gathering inside for dinner and live performances. 

 Every year there is a different theme that each guest follows. This year's theme was, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion'' or “American Independence.” The co-chairs this year were Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka. Not only did the co-chairs look phenomenal, but everyone who attended did as well. Let’s talk about the guests who blew us out of the water with how on theme they were. 

Co-chair Amanda Gorman wore a blue Vera Wang dress and a clutch that inscribed a part of the poem at the base of The Statue of Liberty. Jennifer Lopez wore a custom Ralph Lauren outfit, which conveyed the spirit of the Wild West. New York Representative Carolyn B. Maloney wore a purple, white, green, and gold gown by Antonios Couture with the phrase “equal rights for women.” The colors represented the suffragette movement. Another New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wore an off-the-shoulder white gown by Brother Vellies with the phrase “Tax the Rich” on the back. Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy collaborated with Johnathon Anderson and Cartier to create his outfit. He wore a pastel blue, pink, and green outfit with puffed sleeves that displayed a world map print with a couple kissing on the front. 

Many other stars made appearances this year that killed it with their outfits. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky showed up together. Rhianna displayed many designers, such as Balenciaga, Maria Tash, Thelma West, and BVLGARI jewelry. A$AP Rocky wore ERL. Vera Wang showed up wearing, of course, Vera Wang. What a queen. Kristen Stewart slayed in Chanel. Lili Reinhart wore Christian Siriano and Jimmy Choo. Ben Platt hit the Red Carpet in Christian Cowan. 

All of the guests who attended made history with their amazing outfits. The next Met Gala will take place on May 2, 2022. The theme for next year's event won’t be announced until before the event next year, but I cannot wait to see what it is and what the guests will come up with.
