Millan Tesfazgi on Acting and Being on Set Of Three Mary J. Blige Films
Actress Millan Tesfazgi is an actress who was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, but moved to Vancouver eight years ago to pursue her acting career. just recently she celebrated her role as Sasha in the three Lifetime films inspired by Mary J. Blige’s number-one hit, “Family Affair.” Millan always knew she wanted to be a performer, and she was willing to do anything to express herself on stage. She told her parents at age four that she wanted to be an actor. Executive produced by Mary J. Blige’s Family Affair is the third instalment of the series that began with 2023’s Mary J. Blige’s Real Love, followed by Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman. Millan’s character, Sasha, transitions from a young, wild mom into a mature young woman who embodies compassion for her sister Kendra and those around her. Mary J. Blige’s Family Affair aired on Lifetime on January 25, 2025. Parts 1 and 2 of "Real Love" and "Strength of a Woman" also aired in the lead-up to the premiere of "Family Affair" on that date. Family Affair, starring Ajiona Alexus (as Kendra) and Da’Vinchi (as Ben), will continue where Strength of a Woman left off. Sasha, Kendra's older sister, may have made some mistakes in her life, but she's a loving and compassionate sister, a hardworking mother to a 4-year-old, and would do anything for her family. Throughout each movie, you witness her evolution and emotional maturity. Other past roles of Millan’s include the TV series “Supergirl,” “The Irrational,” “The Arrangement,” “Disappearance in Yellowstone” and “Amish Stud: The Eli Weaver Story.” In conversation with Clique, Millan shares that she is similar to Sasha in that Sasha very expressive of her feelings and emotions. She loves deeply and doesn’t hold back. However, they differ in that Sasha is a wild child; even if her actions don’t make sense to others, she goes for it as long as they make sense to her.
CLIQUE: What initially drew you to the three Mary J. Blige films you are a part of?
Millan: I loved all the stories being conveyed. The audience members will connect with each character for different reasons, which is truly exciting. The authenticity of every character shines through, allowing you to become invested, which drew me in.
CLIQUE: What was one of the most memorable times on set?
Millan: The scene with Sasha, Kendra, and Sunny singing together in the kitchen was special. It beautifully showcased the bond between a mother, daughter, and sisters. It was memorable.

CLIQUE: When did you know that you wanted to get into acting?

CLIQUE: When you signed on to the project, would it always be the three Mary J. Blige films?
Millan: I had no idea there would be three movies, so it was a surprise! It was great because it allowed me to sit with my character over these three years and evolve her meaningfully during that time.
CLIQUE: What was something you learned about yourself during the filming process?
Millan: I’m someone who loves to overprepare and then leave everything at the door once I start filming. I believe it’s about trusting yourself and allowing your authenticity to come through organically.
CLIQUE: How are you similar to your Character Sasha, and how are you different to her?
Millan: I’m similar to Sasha in that she’s very expressive of her feelings and emotions. She loves deeply and doesn’t hold back. However, we differ in that Sasha is a wild child; even if her actions don’t make sense to others, she goes for it as long as they make sense to her.

CLIQUE: What was your audition process like for these films?
Millan: I received the scene and had the opportunity to play around with it. After some time, I got the call that I booked the role, and from there, it was a domino effect.
CLIQUE: What are some actors or actresses that inspire you? Who would you love to work with someday?
Millan: I love Denzel Washington and the commitment he brings to every single role he’s ever played; it’s truly inspiring. I’m also a huge fan of Jessica Chastain—she’s incredible. Regarding who I would love to work with, I have a whole dream list, including the two I mentioned, Viola Davis and Mahershala Ali.
CLIQUE: Is there anything you are working on or will be in the future that you can talk about now?
Millan: All I can say for now is that I’ll be appearing in the new season of *School Spirits* Season 2 on Paramount Plus! Additionally, I’ll be featured in CBC Gem's *Wild Cards*, where I play the role of Jasmine, set to air in March. I’m excited for everyone to tune in! :)
