Greta Gerwig is Penning the Script for Disney’s Live-Action Snow White Remake
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves famously became the first-ever animated film to hit cinemas when it premiered in 1937, going on to influence directors ranging from Orson Welles to Federico Fellini. Greta Gerwig was just announced to write the script for the upcoming Disney live-action Snow White remake. She is best known for writing and directing Lady Bird, and the 2019 version of Little Women.
Disney has been trying to become more diverse with having the film star Rachel Zegler as the title character of Snow White herself. Rachel can be seen as Maria in Steven Spielberg’sWest Side Story this winter. Gal Gadot is set to play the “the fairest of them all,” the Evil Queen.
When it comes to the music for the adaption, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul—the team responsible for the soundtracks to both La La Land and The Greatest Showman—are penning original songs for the film. Musical rehearsals are due to begin early next year, with filming slated to commence in March. Marc Webb will be directing the film. Off to work they go.
Greta is also directing and writing the upcoming Barbie movie! Read all about that here!
