Fashion Trends of 2022 Fashion Weeks!
This year's fashion is full of new, and old trends. Let’s take a look at which fashion trends stood out at all the 2022 fashion weeks.
New York Fashion Week
Mini skirts! Folks, you heard it here: micro skirts are back and shorter than ever. So far at New York Fashion Week, we've seen the tiny skirt in a range of styles and fabrics suitable for the cooler months, such as Dauphinette's ruffled tennis version, Kim Shui's fuzzy and little variants, and Christian Cowan's tweed skirt.
The scandalous look first became popular in the 1970s and 1980s, defying social norms at the time. Still, throughout popular culture history, we've seen the skirts get even smaller, especially in the 90s with celebrities like Pamela Anderson. She had been frequently wearing mini skirts, to other icons such as Brittany Spears and Paris Hilton in the early 2000s. Since then, several of today's most prominent celebrities, like Olivia Rodrigo, Bella Hadid, Megan Fox, and many more, have been pictured in this way. We'll see a lot more of this tiny skirt throughout the autumn and winter.
London Fashion Week
It seems as though the popular television show Euphoria has taken over London fashion. Sheer and cut-out dresses and tops are in demand. Everyone is loving cut-outs to highlight the décolletage or stomach, the color black, and transparent panels to reveal some additional skin.
We know the city of London can get cold, but gloves? For a night out? Looks like you won't be texting at the club. While Mark Fast opted for a more distinctive moto-inspired puffer glove design, Richard Quinn opted for a more traditional approach in terms of materials, however, the vibrant purple color stood out. Halpern, on the other hand, demonstrated that leather is essential for edging up any outfit.
Milan Fashion Week
Similar to London’s trends, Milan has shown lots of sexy sheer outfits. Sheer skirts, dresses, and tops that covered almost nothing took center stage at nearly every show and collection. Gucci, Fendi, Prada, Max Mara, Versace, Bottega Veneta, Sportmax, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, and Tod’s, all presented unique and beautiful sheer trends. The 90s fashion is back!
In 2022, the term "normcore" will have a new meaning. Designers approached the trend differently this season, as it was mostly focused on seeming as natural as possible. The seemingly ordinary looks were anything but; for example, Max Mara's jumpers, which include protective cushions in the sleeves. The same can be said about Bottega Veneta's first runway look, which consisted of loose pants and a white cami top, which was totally composed of leather.
Paris Fashion Week
Let’s spread our wings and fly to Paris fashion week. This year, all eyes have been on the feathers at every fashion week. From skirts, collars, sleeves, and more, Paris decided to go with
a more subtle approach with the fluffy feathers. With a leather outfit, Elie Saab took a rare relaxed approach to the trend, while Balmain brought the look to the office with a fitted skirt set.
You can’t wear shoes without socks. The 90s and early 2000s fashion trends are coming back, so we might as well bring back the knee-high and thigh-high socks. The look is a natural complement to the resurgence of the tiny skirt trend—something needs to keep your exposed legs toasty when the weather lowers.
It’s safe to say that 2022 is the new 90s and y2k. With trends inspired by new television shows, such as Pam and Tommy and Euphoria, fashion is mixing and matching in all colors, textures, and even generations. Will these fashion trends stay? I guess we will see as the year goes on.
