Olivia Rodrigo Shows Off New Hair in "Traitor" Music Video
On the heartbreak and healing journey that is Olivia Rodrigo's debut album Sour, “Traitor” is a particularly gut-wrenching track. And as with Olivia’s other highly stylized visual interpretations, the song's music video featured a beauty look dreamed up to further the romantically messy message. In contrast to her last music video “Brutal”, “Traitor” found Olivia wearing only her signature waist-skimming brunette hair, this time augmented by blown-out burgundy ends.
Olivia’s hair was faded to a blend of pretty pinks and deep reds, the hue—perfected by hair colorist Jessica Gonzalez, with styling by Clayton Hawkins—fit flawlessly within Olivia’s soft grunge feel, which also centered on a dewy complexion, strategic glitter, shimmering lids, and refractive highlighter. A thin, faded flick of black liner teamed with air-dried waves and a vintage ensemble for a glamorous interpretation of a teenage fever dream, all culminating in an after-hours dive into the public pool. From high school halls to traffic jams, high pigtails to partial dye jobs, Olivia’s medley of throwback moments make following along a riveting ride. The fan-favorite track gave a visual featuring nighttime pool swims, arcade games, and scenes as if they are straight out of a coming-of-age story.
The video begins with surreal colors and a transparent Olivia jumping on a trampoline. Soon, she's swimming in a pool filled with flowers, a mirror, car keys, and a ballet shoe, before taking to a truck bed and a neon arcade. The video is shot camcorder style, giving it a home movie feel as she and her music video friends break into school for a swim. At one point, the pool turns into a clear glass box, aquarium style, giving us a “Lover” music video-esque commentary on having your relationship dissected by the public.
