“Hi guys, welcome back to Book Club”, 19 year old Kaia Gerber starts off her Instagram Live book club discussion. Kaia is most notably known for being a model, and is the daughter of Cyndi Crawford, but most recently she can be found sharing her love for literature with all of her fans through her self started book club.
Last spring during lockdown Kaia started a book club to have a conversation about literature and to discuss some of her favorite books with her followers and fellow book lovers. After recommending a book to her followers, and giving them some time to read it, Kaia invites prominent authors and actors to join her in live-stream discussions. Her discussions are always educating, and range from touching on the sexual and racial politics of certain books to having a conversation on a more personal level where an author shares about the Asian American experience while living in todays society.
Kaia’s book choices for her club range from Spring Awakening in order to raise awareness for the Performing Arts industry in New York City to Broken People, which is a groundbreaking, incandescent debut novel about coming to grips with the past and ourselves.
Kaia’s love for literature always shines through during her book club, and is apparent in the way she speaks so fondly of it. “I often find myself returning to literature in one form or another because it touches me in a place most other mediums have yet to.” She said “It quiets my mind and the world around me.”
