Euphoria: What To Expect Next Season

Euphoria: What To Expect Next Season

It’s official. The hit HBO television series Euphoria has been renewed for a third season. The next season should be airing either late 2023 or 2024, but that isn’t confirmed yet. As season two of Euphoria came to an unhinged ending, fans are starting to speculate as to what the next season will hold.

The show's top stars, including Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Angus Cloud, Hunter Schafer, Barbie Ferreira, and Storm Reid are expected to return for the show's third season. Will Cal Jacobs (Eric Dane) and Ashtray (Javon Walton) return for the new season? We are crossing our fingers. Nate turned in his father, Cal Jacobs, to the police in the final episode, so we are unsure what is going to happen with him. Ashtray is believed to have been killed in the police shootout, but fans are wondering if he’s actually dead or not. It’s safe to say that I don’t believe he is returning to the show, but you can never underestimate Sam Levinson and his unforeseeable storyline decisions.

Lexi’s (Maude Apatow) play in the season finale, really slapped some of her friends in the face. As well as exposing her sister Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) for being a bimbo, she exposed her sister’s new boy toy Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) for hiding his homosexuality. Cassie and Nate's relationship, as well as Cassie's friendship with Maddy (Alexa Demie), are in jeopardy, making this love triangle something worth watching in the upcoming season. Lexi’s friendship with Fez (Angus Cloud) has astonished many, allowing us to glimpse a ray of sunshine in a world full of darkness and misery.

What is happening with Fez? The last we saw of Fez was during the police shootout in his home, leaving his “brother” Ashtray dead. He has done everything in his power to protect and raise Ashtray, and now that he is gone, what’s going to happen to Fez? His relationship with Lexi is still in the blooming stages, and the audience is rooting for them. Fez is a fan favorite, and his character grew tremendously this past season. All he wants is a normal life, away from drugs and violence. The season finale left us wondering, what is going to happen to Fez? He and Faye (Chloe Cherry), are most likely going to jail. But, fans have a ton of theories of what they think will happen.

While keeping the focus on Fez’s storyline, let’s talk about Laurie. For those of you who don’t know, Laurie is the woman who gave Rue (Zendaya), the suitcase of drugs. She “took care” of Rue when she was relapsing, and injected her with Morphine. Director and writer, Sam Levinson, left this part of the story pretty vague and open for interpretation. There are many theories trickling around about Rue being sex trafficked by Laurie. During the final episode, Faye ratted out Laurie, while being recorded intentionally by a friend for the police. Hopefully, next season, Laurie’s involvement with Rue, Ashtray, Faye, and Fez will be answered.

Now, for our favorite storyline: Maddy and Cassie. Two best friends, who love the same toxic man. It sounds like every teen drama. But, here’s the catch. Nate Jacobs is gay. Maybe? Possibly? We are unsure. But, what we do know is when Nate has been having his fantasies, they are not only of Maddy and cassie, but we see glimpses of Jules (Hunter Shaffer). Jules, as all of you know, is openly transgender. Back in season one, Jules and Nate had an online fling, which ended badly. But, Nate still thinks of Jules in his dreams. The bad boy was also kind enough to give Jules the sex tape of her and Nate’s father, Cal Jacobs. Was there an ulterior motive? Or, was Nate Jacobs actually doing something nice? This season Nate went off the rails, yet the audience feels bad for him. His father has not only scarred him but is pretty much the reason for Nate’s behavior.

To wrap this all up – here’s what to expect:

Rue narrates at the end of season 2 that she stayed clean for the rest of the school year. At the end of Season 2, Cassie, Maddy, and Kat all appear to be rising seniors. If Rue's narration covers the rest of that school year, season 3 might begin the following year.

Rue and Jules' relationship, which appears to have ended in the last moments of season 2, will be one of the unaddressed plotline concerns. Rue's narration implies that everything worked out for the best, but we don't know what happened to their relationship. The same may be said for Cassie, Nate and Maddy's friendship.

Questioning still, if Ashtray died, and how the raid on their house relates to the other events, including the drug trade. Laurie has yet to be reimbursed by Rue. So there may be some drama there as well.
